“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.”
-Laura Ingalls Wilder
Hello Dear Reader,
We have made it to through another cold winter in New England! We are seeing and feeling the promise of warmth on our bare skin and the simple act of walking in the sunshine brings light to the weight we might carry. For many there is simply the joy in noting the snowbells and crocus showing up through the leaves left behind under the snow. These signs of life, cycles of seasons showing up and reminding us we are all a part of something much, much bigger.
I can not imagine living in a place where the seasons do not provide opportunity to stop, breathe and acknowledge a page turning. I think of it as a moment to be grateful we are here, alive and to reflect on what is now in the rear view mirror. Cheers to the warmer weather ahead!
The Harvard Sq Business Association pulled off another great season of some wonderful events throughout the cold winter. Both the Chocolate Festival and the Chili Cook Off happen in the coldest of months! If you are planning a trip it is always worth checking the HSBA site to see what events might be happening the weekend you are in town.
If you have not yet been, set some time aside for the MIT Museum. It’s a great way to spend some time checking out all the possibilities and great for older kids interested in engineering. If you find yourself in the Central Sq area on your way back to Irving House I recommend Shojo. I recently took my preteen (typically hard to impress age) here and he was very impressed with the cool vibe. He is an adventurous eater so he was game to try just about everything on the menu but we both really liked the spare ribs.
If you are looking for gluten free, Naco Taco makes all their tortillas in house and really impressed us with their taco options. Or perhaps you are looking for seitan disguised as “chick’n” and waffles or “steak” & cheese sub. Veggie Galaxy really has gone the distance with their menu making just about every American comfort food vegetarian and usually even vegan, upon request.
Cambridge has a restaurant to suit everyone and most are within walking distance of Irving House or a just couple stops on the subway!
A new theater has opened up with a really interesting season planned! If you are coming to town it might be worth checking Arrow St Arts to see if any of their up coming shows interest you! The space was once occupied by Oberon theater but has been completely renovated and has multiple spaces to attract some interesting preforming artists. Plus it’s on “our side” of Harvard Sq so its just a short walk through the neighborhood to get there!
